Week of December 13, 2010
This week will be jammed packed full of fun for our students! On Tuesday, we will be going on a field trip to the ropes course. Friday is a half day as well as our holiday party. This week the students will be working on leads(the beginnings of stories) and adding important information to their stories. In math, the students will be continuing graphs and beginning perimeter and area. In reading, the students will be finding main ideas in nonfiction. In science, the students will be exploring how erosion, deposition and weathering change the earth's surface. In social studies, the students will be learning about influential explorers who came to Texas. There will be no spelling hw this week due to the week's full schedule but the students will still have reading and math hw.

Welcome back!
This week in math the students will be working on patterns in tables and graphs. In reading we will be distinguishing between important information and interesting information. In writing we will be finding the elements of a good personal narrative. In science we will be exploring the may forces that shape the earth and in social studies we will be studying the effects of European exploration in Texas.

Week of November 8th
What's Up this Week?
In Math this week we will be focusing on patterns, tables and relationships. In Reading we will be figuring out what to do when our comprehension breaks down and making inferences in non fiction. In Writing we will be taking a writing benchmark on Tuesday. The rest of the week, we will be working on discovering stories in our lives, proper nouns and irregular verbs. We will continue to work on spelling words misspelled from our writing notebooks.In Science we will be learning about the earth's layers, weathering and erosion. In Social Studies we will be learning about early explorers that came to Texas.

This week in LA we will be making inferences from books and drawing conclusions. In writing we will be reading good examples of personal narratives and writing personal stories. In Math, we well be finishing 3 digit division and beginning rounding. In Social Studies we will continue our study on Native Americans, finish our trioramas and present them.In Science we will be finishing weather and beginning to learn about the rock cycle.

In math we will continue to learn how to divide 2 and three digit numbers. We will also be working on multiplication facts. In reading we will be working on listening to our thoughts while reading. In writing we will be making lists of topics and writing briefly on them. We will also be working on irregular verbs, capital nouns and cursive letters. We will also begin our new spelling program. In Social Studies we will be finishing our research on Native Americans and making a triorama. In Science, we will be learning about weather instruments and changes in weather.

What's Up This Week?
This week in math our students will be focusing on dividing 2 digit and three digit numbers. In Reader's Workshop we will be focusing on learning how to monitor our comprehension while reading. In writer's workshop we will be making lists of ideas and writing brief essays about our topics. We will also be learning a new strategy for word study(spelling). In Social Studies, we will be learning about some important Texas Native American tribes. Lastly, we will be meteorologists in science while we practice using measurement tools to record and predict the weather. It's going to be a blast! Don't forget to email or call Mrs. Raybon to schedule a conference. Conferences for this class will be held Thursday and Friday from 12:30-3:15.
